Manufacturing Engineering Intern

Acuity Brands Lighting Inc.

Minnesota, USA

During my internship at Acuity Brands in Minnesota, I worked as part of the Manufacturing Engineering team to optimize production processes and improve shop-floor efficiency.

My projects included designing custom CNC fixtures in Solid Works, conducting time studies for capacity planning, and setting up a 3D printing farm within the engineering office. I also supported several Kaizen and 5S initiatives, developing visual work instructions and improving workstation layouts. This experience allowed me to connect engineering theory with real-world manufacturing and strengthened my problem-solving and teamwork skills in an international environment.

Recreation Assistant

Kettering University

Michigan, USA

During my semester abroad, I applied independently for an on-campus job at Kettering University’s Recreation Center.
This role gave me an early opportunity to navigate the American hiring process, adapt to a new work culture, and build confidence in an international environment.

2022 - 2025

Mechanical Engineering Co-op

Phoenix Contact Connector Technology GmbH

Herrenberg, Germany

As a working student in the fixture design department, I created and integrated mechanical assemblies in Solid Edge, following the company’s design standards, tolerancing methods, and documentation guidelines. I also developed a VBA-based data management tool to organize spare and standard parts across the workshop. My work combined hands-on manufacturing experience with detailed CAD design and process-oriented documentation.

I worked part-time during semesters and full-time during semester breaks

Industrial Mechanic Apprentice

Phoenix Contact Connector Technology GmbH

Herrenberg, Germany

During my apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic in precision engineering, I worked in the mechanical and fixture construction workshops, gaining hands-on experience in turning, milling, and assembly. I also realized my first independent design projects.

This combination of practical manufacturing and early design experience gave me a strong foundation in precision engineering and technical problem-solving.

2019

Intern

ZIM Flugsitz

Markdorf, Germany

During my internship at ZIM Flugsitz, a manufacturer of aircraft seating systems, I gained insight into production, prototyping, and product development. I supported the assembly of seat structures and preparation of test setups for static and dynamic testing. I also learned the basics of technical drawing interpretation and 3D modeling in CATIA V5, creating a simple aircraft model as part of my training. This experience gave me my first exposure to aerospace manufacturing and CAD-based design work.
